- Does keeping track of all the changes, support levels,
and coexistence features of all the OS/390, z/OS, CICS, DB2, ACF/NCP and other IBM
product releases frustrate you?
- Would you like a time-saving alternative for software
upgrades that does the basic, product-related work, while giving you the
capability to tailor it?
- Would you like an economical starting point to a
comprehensive project plan, one that identifies the vast majority of tasks
required to upgrade OS/390, z/OS, CICS, DB2, ACF/NCP or other IBM products?
- If a product like this could pay for itself by saving
just 1 day of your system staff’s time, wouldn’t it be worth it?
Then check out our Migration Starter Kits! They provide
you an alternative to the grunt work that goes into any upgrade. They reduce the
research that would otherwise be done by your staff, they greatly reduce the
project planning effort, and they provide over 3,300 Internet links to further
information sources. The Migration Starter Kits expedite project management,
which is so important to a successful mainframe software upgrade.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Migration Starter Kits are provided for OS/390, z/OS, CICS, DB2, and ACF/NCP.
- The Migration Starter Kits have been field-tested over the course of 14
software upgrades.
- The OS/390 Migration Starter Kit covers OS/390 V2.6 through OS/390
V2.10.

V7.8.
- Migration tasks are identified within the task description as to which
release they apply to.
- Standard, normal upgrade tasks are intermingled with migration tasks.
- A total of 32 IBM products/components are in the OS/390 and z/OS Migration Starter Kits.
- The Migration Starter Kits can be combined together into a single Starter
Kit
(Combined Starter Kit).
- Over 4,800 tasks are included in the Combined Starter Kit(s).
- All Migration Starter Kits include upgrade activities for 3rd
Party products.
- A total of 153 3rd Party products are included in the Combined Starter Kit(s). Others will be added at your request.
- All Migration Starter Kits include ServerPac tasks.
- Hyperlinks to IBM and 3rd Party product manuals, SHARE presentations,
vendor contacts, etc. are provided, making access to technical guidance as
easy as the click of a mouse.
- Product-related hyperlinks are found at the beginning of a product
section (i.e. DFSMS, JES3, etc.), putting the references you need to
upgrade that product (such as Migration Guides, Installation Guides,
Customization Guides, SHARE presentations, etc.) at your fingertips.
- Task-related hyperlinks are found with specific tasks, and the
references they connect to relate directly to those tasks.
- Over 3,300 hyperlinks are included in the Combined Starter Kit(s).
- Many hyperlinks are presented via MS Project footnotes, providing as many
as 20 references for a given task or product.
- A Usage, Viewing, and Tailoring Guide is included that provides
step-by-step directions on how to perform many of the day-to-day tasks
involved in customizing and administering a finalized Migration Plan. To view
the Guide, click here.
- Project plans are provided in MS Project or PDF format, but the PDF
version is more difficult to edit, and does not have many of the functions
in the MS Project Migration Starter Kits,
including use of the hyperlinks.
- You must have either MS Project or Acrobat Reader – depending on
format – to view and print Migration Starter Kits. Acrobat is needed for
tailoring PDF Migration Starter Kits.
- A Microsoft Project 60-Day Evaluation Kit can be obtained for $8.00 at http://www.microsoft.com/office/project/evaluation/trial.asp.
- These are not complete project plans; some tailoring is required. Best Customer Solutions
will provide consulting and tailoring
assistance as requested at a rate of $85/hr. This time can also be used for
technical assistance with planning the upgrade or for
answering/researching technical questions related to the upgrade.
- Microsoft Project skills may be required if a Migration Starter Kit is
extensively tailored.
